If you are a member of First Presbyterian Church (aka FPC), we hope you are familiar with our publication, “Reflections.” We offer it is a meaningful source of information and inspiration for you. On the other hand, it is designed as an invitation to others, outside of FPC, who might want to nourish the roots of their faith and to reflect on what it means to be a Christian.
Producing a quality publication is a challenge to the editorial board who work at it as a labor of love. Attracting and holding the attention of the target audiences described above defines the challenge. While the membership of FPC is automatically placed on the mailing list, reaching those “on the other hand” mentioned above is like shooting at a moving target.
These folks might have lost interest in attending church, becoming drop-outs. Others may have never had a church affiliation. Many have become members of a group called “seekers” -those who have found something missing in their lives and are looking for a way to fill the void. That something could be a restoration of faith. They constitute a large part of the target audience of “Reflections.”
We address them in a variety of ways. Our aim is to offer articles that are imaginative, original in subject selection and graphically compelling. We try to guide seekers in identifying faith as the dimension worth strengthening in their lives and church as the structure in which it resides. “Reflections” contains articles written by (and accredited to) prominent and popular authors such as C.S, Lewis, Eugene Peterson, Frederick Buechner and others. We also invite guest articles from local clergy and theologians. Original articles by our own staff (writers Bill Adams, Sally Jarvis and Don Goldstrom) plus “selected short subjects” and original cartoons are all arranged in arresting layouts with original artwork by designer Dick Whitson combine to create a provocative finished product.
If you know of anyone who might benefit from reading our publication, simply inform Laura Meyers in the church office (laura@fpclanc.org) and free copies of “Reflections” will be on their way.
