Summer
Theme:

Rethinking Church
Rethinking Church

This summer our preaching focus will be on Paul’s letter to the Ephesians. Week by week we will examine passages which will help us to understand how Paul believed we who confess faith in Jesus will have our identity, both as individuals and as a church, shaped by our relationship with Jesus Christ.

This Year's
Sermon Series:

Chartres Labyrinth
Joy in the Journey

We are in the midst of a year long series entitled Joy in the Journey, examining the heroes and heroines of the Bible in an attempt to understand that faith is not so much a destination as it is a journey. All of the sermons throughout the year will focus on how God honored the steps taken by each of the figures in the Bible as one step in a life long journey of faith.

Lenten
Series:

Crown of Thorns

Prayers from the Cross

During Lent our preaching theme will continue our year long series by taking us on a Journey to the Cross. The series is titled Prayers from the Cross using the Seven Last Words of Jesus as a model for our praying. These words of Jesus help us to understand how we can bring our deepest needs to God and trust that God will hear us.

Series:

Open Bible
The Words of Jesus

This fall we begin a year long series of sermons focused on the words of Jesus. The reference is to the red letter edition of the Bible which many grew up with where the actual words of Jesus were highlighted in red. In the fall we will focus on the public teaching of Jesus. In the winter (January-February) we will examine the intimate conversations he had with his disciples. During Lent we will examine his words of healing. Following Easter we will look at what he said to his disciples after he had been raised from the dead. Finally, next summer we will focus on his words of private instruction.

The words are the Words of Jesus from all four of the Gospel. They have been drawn together by Phyllis Tickle, Editor of the Religion Department at Publishers Weekly, in her book entitled "The Words of Jesus".

Heart Steeple
Discovering the
Heart of Christ

It was just a year ago that the officers of our church endorsed a new vision statement to guide our ministry from 2007-2012.  After listening to our membership through a process called appreciative inquiry, the vision says that it is our goal over the those five years to Discover the Heart of Christ in the Heart of the City.

During worship each week in Lent we will be exploring the first five words of our vision statement, "Discovering the Heart of Christ" Where shall we look to discover the heart of Christ? We are suggesting that the best place to look is the Beatitudes. In those first ten verses of Matthew 5, Jesus gives us a clear picture of the focus of his understanding of call; his agenda for ministry.
